This appendix describes the steps taken by the WIC System to determine the default food prescription for the participant. The relevant attributes from the risk factors table that are used determine the default food prescription are included in this appendix, as are the default food prescriptions and their component food items.
Determine Default Food Prescription
The system takes into account the following participant information when determining the default food prescription for the participant:
WIC Category
Age
Risk Factors (system assigned and CPA-determined)
The global steps necessary to determine the default food prescription are as follows:
Determine the age category for the participant.
Determine the principle risk factor for the participant.
Identify the default food prescription associated with the principle risk factor.
Apply default food package from present date through end of certification, adjusting for any milestones.
