The Clinic module of the SPIRIT WIC system ensures that the current age of the participant is valid for their WIC Category. The system determines their age by calculating the difference between the current system date and their recorded date of birth. If the participant's age is not valid for their WIC Category the system will warn the user and will not let them proceed without making a correction.
The age of an Infant ranges from 0 days (newborn) up to 1 day short of 1 year old. The minimum age for a Child is always 1-year old. These limits are built into the system and do not require business rules.
The following business rules enable the state to define the upper age limit for a Child as well as the upper age limit for all women. These age limits are measured in years and the defined value encompasses the entire year. For example, defining the upper age limit of a Child as "5" allows a user to add a Child onto the system as long as they are one day short of 6 years old. Defining the upper age limit as "4" will allow a user to add a Child onto the system that is one day short of 5 years old.
It is recommended that the values set for this business rule match the values in the AGECATEGORY table.
If the value of the EOD_PROCESSMEMBERADJUSTMENTS business rule equals "Y", the End of Day Command Line Batch Processing will automatically update a participant's records in the MEMBER and CERTCONTACT tables to categorically ineligible and terminated when their age exceeds the specific, state-defined maximum age.
