Electronic Benefit Transfer (also known as e-WIC) - The technology used to transmit electronic WIC benefit redemption. Where transactions are routed from the retailer to a transaction processing service via electronic messages and files.
Food and Nutrition Services Division of the USDA - The U.S. Government agency working to end hunger and obesity through the administration of 15 federal nutrition assistance programs including WIC, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and school meals.
Graphical User Interface - A type of user interface that allows users to interact with electronic devices through graphical icons and visual indicators.
JavaScript Object Notation - A lightweight data-interchange format that is easy for humans to read and write and also easy for machines to parse and generate. JSON based on a subset of the JavaScript Programming Language.
Management Information System - Software designed for the administration, monitoring, and reporting of a program and its patients or program participants. For the purposes of this document the MIS is specific to the WIC Program and its participants.
State Agency Model (for Management Information Systems) - A term referring to a "one size fits all" model for the design of a WIC MIS.
Successful Partners in Reaching Innovative Technology (A WIC SAM Consortium) - One of the major SAM systems, used in many agencies throughout the United States.
SPIRIT WIC EBT Middleware - A Middleware product developed to support communication between SPIRIT and the WUMEI.
United States Department of Agriculture - A department of the United States government that manages various programs related to food, agriculture, natural resources, rural development and nutrition.
